Get to Know Taylor Stetka
Taylor Stetka, Reading Specialist at Oakland Mills Middle School, was inspired to pursue a career in education by the memorable teachers who supported and encouraged her throughout her own educational journey, from elementary school through high school. Fourteen years into her career as a middle school educator, Taylor says she cannot imagine doing anything else.

In addition to calling LanguageLine, staff can use the new LanguageLine app to connect with an on-demand video or telephone interpreter from their computer or mobile device when assisting families with language needs. - HCPSS recipients of the 2026 Connected School Leader Award by the Maryland Association of Elementary School Principals are Dr. Rachel Edoho-Eket, principal of Waterloo Elementary School; Anthony Esposito, principal of Lake Elkhorn Middle School; and, Michelle Leader, principal of Clemens Crossing Elementary School.
- Kacy Valentine, Lake Elkhorn Middle School English teacher, was named one of seven finalists for the 2027 Maryland Teacher of the Year.

Join the Employee Chorus
Do you enjoy singing? Please consider joining the Howard County Employee Chorus. No previous chorus experience necessary; just a love for singing.
The chorus is open to all HCPSS employees, as well as their significant others and adult family members. The first rehearsal is Wednesday, Jan. 7 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Howard High School. More information will be sent to those who register.

AAEHC Fall Kickoff
The Asian American Educators of Howard County (AAEHC) invites current and future members of AAEHC to the Fall Kickoff event on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2026, from 5–7 p.m. at the Howard County Library System - Elkridge Branch, Belmont/Hockley Room. AAEHC is comprised of HCPSS educators dedicated to increasing Asian American representation among Howard County educators, strengthening a sense of belonging and community, and supporting leadership and growth opportunities for staff and students.
This year's theme celebrates being Rooted and Growing, while connecting around the HCPSS strategic priorities. The evening will include a welcome, a keynote address from Superintendent Bill Barnes, dinner and networking, and interactive table conversations connecting AAEHC members, students, and district leaders around themes of learning and instruction, student belonging, staff growth, and family and community partnerships.
