This message is to provide staff with information related to forecasted inclement weather and its potential impact on the work day for Monday, Jan. 26. At this time, no determination has been made on a change to HCPSS’ operating status for Monday.
Monday is scheduled to be a staff Professional Work Day with schools closed for students. Forecasts are predicting a significant weather event in Howard County Saturday night through Monday morning, which could result in icy and snowy roads and walkways.
If inclement weather develops and HCPSS determines an adjustment is necessary, Monday’s Professional Work Day will become a virtual work day for staff who are scheduled to work.
Staff should take all necessary devices and materials home before the weekend in the event Monday is a virtual workday.
Additionally, if the decision is made to have a fully virtual work day on Monday:
- All staff who are scheduled to work on Monday will be expected to work remotely, and/or be available as necessary based on agreements and direction from your supervisor. Custodial, Grounds, and Maintenance staff will not be expected to report to work unless they are designated as an emergency employee, who should report as directed by their supervisor.
- Hourly employees should send an email to their timekeeper at the start of their shift and the end of their shift so a manual time adjustment can be made into Workday.
- All employees, regardless of bargaining unit, designated as emergency employees, or those who supervise emergency employees, should report as directed by their supervisor.
- Any employee who is not designated as an emergency employee will not be allowed to enter HCPSS buildings.
Any staff who are scheduled to work on Monday and are not able to do so are expected to submit leave in Workday. As a reminder, HCPSS Circular 1001 lists the 10- and 11-month ESP employees who are not scheduled to work on Monday, Jan. 26.
Any change to the HCPSS operating status for Monday will be communicated via the standard HCPSS emergency communication procedures.
